SCRUFFY dogs will be a thing of the past at Ferne Animal Sanctuary near Chard, thanks to a purpose built grooming and treatment room.
The room, which was opened in June, was built with the help of two grants from the Petplan Charitable Trust.
Team leader Naomi Clarke and head of kennels Katie Hagerty say the new facility has made a big difference to the sanctuary.
They said: "Although we were able to purchase professional dog bathing and grooming equipment with a grant from The Petplan Charitable Trust in 2003/2004 it had been squeezed into the kennels kitchen, and it is wonderful now to have the space and a proper wet room in which to work."
David Simpson, chair of trustees for the trust said: "We at The Petplan Charitable Trust are happy to be able to help Ferne Animal Sanctuary in their work.
"The donations raised from the Petplan policy holders can make a real difference to the welfare of all in need of help, and this work is furthered by charities such as Ferne Animal Sanctuary.
"We commend the work carried out here and hope they can develop and train further teams to continue and expand their honourable work."
