A MAN accused of shouting racist abuse at a Chard shop worker after he was caught urinating outside the back of the premises has been ordered to stand trial before Somerset Magistrates.

Pawel Malachowski, 32, of Combe Street, appeared before Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil accused of two racially aggravated public order offences.

He is alleged on April 28 at Bath House Hotel in Chard, with intent to cause Ronald Takwai Jim harassment, alarm or distress, to have used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour, and the offence was racially aggravated.

He was charged with a further similar offence on the same date without the racial element.

Malachowski pleaded not guilty to the allegations and prosecutor Joanne Pearce said that after he was caught urinating outside the back of the premises he was said to have said racist words to the complainant.

Defending solicitor Greg Peters told the court that his client denied making any racial comments.

A pre-trial review was conducted and the matters were adjourned until September 15 when the defendant must return to the court for a trial to take place.

In the meantime he was released on unconditional bail.
