FIRE crews were sent to a kitchen fire in Chard after food was left in an oven.

Smoke and a smell of burning was coming from a flat on Old Town around 11.49am today (August 6).

Two fire engines attended the scene.

Crews found the fire to be on a ground-floor flat and extinguished it using two breathing apparatus wearers, a hose reel jet, and a safety jet.

A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke and a thermal imaging camera was used to check for any fire spread and hotspots within the building.

The cause of the fire is said to be accidental due to food being left on the cooker.

There is slight heat damage to the cooker and slight smoke damage to the kitchen.
