A NEW musical fundraiser to prove Chard’s Got Talent and support a cancer charity is being launched in February.

Monthly open mic nights are being run by Chard resident John Gudge at the Rugby Club, and will culminate in a live final to be held at the Guildhall in June.

The first open mic night is on Friday, February 10, from 7pm to 11pm. Mr Gudge said: “I am hoping to have all sorts of talented people turn up, any ability and age – singers, musicians, magicians, comedians, school choirs and even dancers.

“With donations being taken on the door, all you need to do is come along, show your talent and have fun. I’d also like to thank Chard Rugby FC for letting us use their fantastic venue for the open mic sessions.”

Money raised from the open mic nights will go to the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, which was chosen as John lost his wife Rose to cancer last year.

There is no need to pre-book, performers are invited to just turn up on the night with any equipment needed to wow the crowd.

The culmination of the Open Mic nights will be the main event of Chard’s Got Talent, to be held at Chard Guildhall on Friday, June 2 from 7pm.
