A CHARD man who relapsed back onto heroin bought illegal drugs on the internet in a bid to wean himself off, a court heard.

When police carried out a drugs search at Roy Wallace Jeffery’s address in relation to a separate matter they discovered two diazepam pills and he was charged.

Car salesman Jeffery, 49, of Beckington Crescent, admitted being in possession of the class C drug at Chard on July 20 on appearing before Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil.

Prosecutor Emma Lenanton said officers executed the drugs search warrant at the defendant’s his home and found Jeffery there with three other males.

She said: “He said he had obtained them over the internet as they had not been prescribed to him.”

Defending, Ray Peters said that Jeffery had a 10-year gap in his offending record, but outside factors caused him to become very distressed earlier this year and he relapsed.

The magistrates fined Jeffery £120 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge, as well as a drugs destruction order.
