I ABSOLUTELY agree with Linda Piggott-Vijeh in her ‘War Wounds’ letter.
She accurately argues how disastrous the Iraq war and its aftermath was, and still is, and how we are as a result we are seeing an increase in terrorist activity.
The theatre of war through the ages has seen incompetence and, misinformation, dreadful errors that have caused the deaths of innocents people.
Our excellent EU MP, Molly Scott Cato, points out the moral case for scrapping Trident, which to my mind is water-tight.
Adding to this the strong possibility of human error, electric failure, misinformation, and Linda’s point about the aftermath of war, scrapping Trident is the obvious course of action.
We are told it is ‘insurance’, an interesting euphemism. I have a number of insurance policies, but none of them mention blasting the hell out of other countries (or maybe I didn’t read the small print).
In the event of such a conflict I doubt if there’ll be a Chilcot left to report on it.
