A CHARD mother who had to be cut free from her car after drinking and getting behind the wheel has been banned from driving.

Tiffany Ellen Fisher, 23, of Henson Park had been out drinking with friends when she developed a low mood after walking home and decided to go out for a drive in the middle of the night in her pyjamas.

She then got into her car, which left the road near the Turnpike Caravan Park in Howley off the A30 and she had to be cut free from the wreckage by fire crews. She was not seriously injured in the incident.

Fisher, pleaded guilty to driving a Ford Fiesta on the A30 at Chard on May 8 after consuming excess alcohol, when she appeared before Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil.

Christine Hart, prosecuting, said that the defendant was involved in a single vehicle accident at 2.45am where she was left trapped in her vehicle and had to be freed by the fire service.

“She gave a positive breath sample at the roadside and was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital where a urine test produced a reading of 193mlg of alcohol in 100m of urine, the legal limit being 107mlg of alcohol,” she said.

When she appeared in court her solicitor Joseph Wright said that she was devastated about what had happened and could not explain why she committed the offence.

Mr Wright said that Fisher had been to a friend’s house for a drink the evening before and then went on to a cricket club in a taxi. He said: “My client suffers from depression and should not really drink.

“She cannot explain the offence but at 1am she felt very low and upset and needed to get away so walked home and went to bed,” he said.

“She then became lower and was desperate and upset and needed to go out, so went out in her pyjamas and got into the car and drove.

“The car left the road and she felt a sharp pain in her leg, however she was not seriously hurt but is devastated about what happened.”

Magistrates banned her from driving for 17 months.

Alongside the disqualification the magistrates fined Fisher £207 and also imposed £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
