COUNCILLOR Dave Bulmer has been elected as the mayor of Chard for a second year running.

Cllr Bulmer was elected in a unanimous vote at Chard's Annual Parish Council meeting yesterday evening (Monday, May 17).

He said at the meeting: "It has been a privilege and an honour to be the mayor of this town that we all love.

"During carnival was particularly enjoyable and we had a positive response from mayors of other towns.

"The other highlight of my year was the run up to christmas, listening to carol singers and going to visit old peoples homes.

"I really have met a lot of people within Chard and outside of the town as well. At the end of the day it is about promoting our town in a positive way."

At the meeting yesterday evening, Cllr Bulmer also named the two mayor's charities for the year.

They are Chard First Responders and Chard Hospital's League of Friends.

The mayor also announced that the remainder of last year's mayor's budget will go towards the Queen's birthday celebrations, and following a meeting with Cllr Jenny Kenton it was decided this may be used to fund a zip wire in the town.
