I AM deeply concerned that Environment Minister Liz Truss is being lobbied by large chemical companies to lift the current ban on bee-killing pesticides.
As a keen environmentalist, gardener and consumer of fruit and vegetables I believe it should be everyone’s concern to do all we can to protect the bees which fertilise so many of our crops we eat.
The decline in bee populations worldwide is strongly linked with the use of certain fertilisers, which may produce more crops in the short term, but in the longer term are likely to cause global catastrophe.
Already two applications have been made to lift the current ban on bee-killing pesticides this year and I would strongly urge you to contact your local MP and share your concerns with them too, in the hopes they will play their part in making sure this ban is not lifted again.
The more MPs who stand up for our bees, the less likely this is to happen.
