GLASSES were raised and toasts were made at this year’s Chard Beer Fest.

The popular event saw dozens of local people attend the three-day festivities, with a fun day on the Sunday meaning there was fun for all the family.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Chard, there were 11 real ales from four local breweries, with cider also served on draught for those wanting to try the best drinks that Somerset has to offer.

The event kicked off on the Friday night at Chard Football Club, with a group of local bands also performing to provide entertainment.

The beer festival was also raising money for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, and although a final total has not been announced, it is expected to be more than £1,000, and to beat last year’s total.

Mike Trott, membership chairman of Chard Rotary Club, thanked all those who turned out to the event.

Mr Trott said: “It went very well, it was spot on really. We had a stroke of luck because the football club had a reserve team match on, so they all came in and tasted some ales.

“It ran all the way through until the evening and the bands we had on were great. Saturday night in particular was brilliant.

“We had a really good crowd come in every day, even on the fun day on the Sunday when the weather wasn’t so good and it was a bit disappointing, there were still quite a few people and everyone had a really good time.”
