SO, how did Chard celebrate our Monarch’s 90th Birthday on Thursday, April 21?

One place that acknowledged her birthday was in the little café in Holyrood Street with congratulations and bunting in the window – well done to them.

However, unless I missed them, I saw no other shop fronts sporting a bit of red white and blue.

So sad – but typical of the apathy in Chard. Surely the charity shops, of which there are an abundance, could have decorated their windows appropriately – a few balloons in the estate agents and one or two little union jacks in the building societies wouldn’t have taken much of their time to do and why couldn’t the pubs have flown the Union Jack as a mark of respect to someone who has served this country so well for most of her 90 years?

Shame on you all, I say – Chard should be ashamed. Councillors, what are your excuses? Why could a flag not have been put out over the balcony of the Guidhall or some bunting or something to mark this amazing woman’s 90th year? Not a good advert for Chard at all.
