A CREWKERNE man accused of assaulting a female security officer at a bar in Yeovil has had the case against him dropped on the day of the trial.

Nathan Francis, 21, of South Street, Crewkerne, pleaded not guilty to assaulting Deborah Barrett by beating her during the early morning incident at Woods Wine Bar where she was employed on January 16.

Prosecutor Christine Hart said at a previous hearing before Somerset Magistrates that the defendant was alleged to have been verbally abusive to the victim and was also said to have grabbed her by her arms, flicked a cigarette at her and swung a punch towards her which did not make contact.

Francis said he was not involved in the incident and did not do any of the things that were alleged, and when the case was put before the court at Yeovil for trial the Bench was told the Crown Prosecution Service was no longer offering any evidence in the case.

As a result the allegation against Francis was dismissed.
