A CHARD Childcare centre is celebrating this week after their recent Ofsted report ranked them as outstanding across all areas.

See Saw Childcare had the inspection on March 9, but only recently received the results.

Ann Killeen, who runs See Saw with her daughters Hannah and Amber, said: “I was absolutely thrilled, really really thrilled. We were inspected five years ago in a different property so it was more important here.

“It is a completely different building, a different and environment, and the indicators have changed for Ofsted requirements.

“We have attended different training to look at what outstanding now means.

“Five years ago it was very child-led and it is now back to being focused on teaching and learning.

“My husband died in 2015 so he never saw it inspected. We renovated it together but we never actually got to the stage where we ticked the boxes.

“We are a family-run business. It is me and my two daughters. Personally, As a family, it seemed like quite an uphill thing.

When the renovation was finished, Ann’s husband Andrew had one last surprise.

“My husband said ‘just come outside and see one further thing', and it was the new sign,” Mrs Killeen said. “We were really thrilled. It is our second Ofsted since we have been trading and both have been outstanding in all areas.”

The report, by inspector Michelle Tuck, said: “The quality of teaching by the childminder and her assistants is exceptional.

“They meticulously plan learning opportunities that build on children’s achievements and knowledge, preparing children extremely well for their future learning and school.”

Mrs Killeen added: “The remarks that stand out for me are that children develop excellent literacy skills, innovative ideas are used to promote shared learning, behaviour is exceptional, an inspiring outside area, and independence skills are excellent.”

The report also said that “Ann has an exceptionally strong commitment to maintaining high standards and continually drives improvement”, to which Ann replied: “This comment is very special for me as due to the difficult year we have had as a family I have needed to remain extremely professionally focused with regard to the business.

“I feel my husband would be extremely proud of this moment we worked together towards but unfortunately could not share.

“It was only through his 100 per cent commitment to me achieving my dream that I have been given the opportunity in such an ideal environment.”
