A COUNCILLOR has stepped down from her position on Chard Town Council.

Cllr Brennie Halse, first elected in 2011, has resigned from her position representing Holyrood Ward due to personal issues.

This could trigger a by-election if more than 10 people write to the district council calling for one.

If an election is not called, then the council will co-opt a new councillor on to the authority.

Zoe Truong, town clerk, said in a statement: “Notice is hereby given in accordance with Section 87 of the Local Government Act 1972 that a vacancy has occurred in the Holyrood Ward of Chard Town Council.

“Unless a request for an election to be held is submitted in writing to the Proper Officer of South Somerset District Council at The Council Offices, Brympton Way, Yeovil, Somerset, BA20 2HT by Thursday, April 28, by ten electors of Holyrood Ward for the town of Chard, the town council will proceed to fill the vacancy by co-option.”
