A CHARD man has braved the harsh extremes of Bulgaria to take part in Channel 5 survival show 10,000 BC.

Daniel Evans, 26, took part in the second series of the show which starts airing on Wednesday this week.

In the show, 10,000 BC: Two Tribes, 24 British people are sent to remote Bulgaria to endure a Stone Age lifestyle for two months.

Dan said: “I watched the first series and I enjoyed it. I thought all of them were useless and I thought I could do a much better job. I enjoy hunting and fishing and I thought it would be just the thing for me.

“I knew the basics of what had to happen to catch a fish, it was just the tools that were different, although that made it a million times harder.

Daniel initially started the show in a team of twelve, completely unaware of a second team that he was competing with.

“As soon as I knew there were more people I thought it was brilliant. I had high hopes that we would all team up together, there'd be no us and them,” he added.

“When everyone is hungry you've got to provide for people. Everything we killed we used and if we didn't eat it we made something out of it.

“People got squeamish but when they were hungry they were the same as everyone else. We even had a vegetarian eating meat.”

“I had a big kill for the tribe which was a memorable moment because it was a big deer. We could feast for a couple of days and fill our bellies and process the rest for the next ten days. You're only having 300-400 calories a day so when you get a kill like that it just tastes like gold in your mouth.”

It wasn’t just deer that Daniel caught, there were also some more unusual animals as well.

“I shot a hedgehog. I was told I could eat it otherwise I never would have killed it. We were just about to prep it for food and I was told we couldn't eat it,” he said.

“In the end we used it as fishing bait which gave us plenty of crayfish to eat so it didn't go to waste. I think it's going to come back and haunt me that is.”
