A CHARD man has praised Somerset Partnership after his recovery from a recent stroke.

Michael Byron, was discharged early after his stroke in August to continue his recovery back home in Chard.

He said: "I am at home in a relaxed atmosphere and there are none of the usual hospital distractions.

"I am doing lots more exercises than I would in hospital because I have the support of my wife.

"Also, my exercise regime is tailored to fit me in my home so I think this helps too.

Mr Byron's recovery was aided by the Somerset Partnership’s Early Supported Discharge Service.

Edward Colgan, Chief Executive of Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said: "I am delighted that the Early Supported Discharge (ESD) Service has been received so positively by Mr Byron. I am pleased that it has made such a difference to his recovery.

"As Michael Byron’s comments bear out, patients say they have a better experience when care is delivered out of hospital and closer to home.

"We know that patients recover more quickly when rehabilitation takes place in their own home.

The Early Supported Discharge (ESD) Service, piloted for the last two years in Mendip, was rolled out across Somerset in September.

Since September 1, the new service has helped 50 stroke patients and five patients with brain injuries.
