PUDSEY inspired schools across South Somerset to raise money for Children in Need last week.

Children at Greenfylde First School brought in their teddy bears on Friday for the annual appeal.

Headteacher Claire Oaten was delighted to announce that the teddy bears were very well behaved in class and that school was delighted to support the ever-popular Children in Need cause.

Pyjamas and Pudsey combined at South Petherton Church of England School as children raised over £100 for the charity.

Meanwhile, the South Petherton pre-school, Forest School, also sported their pyjamas and took part in Pudsey Bear activities.

Rose Bennett, school business manager for South Petherton School, said: "We haven't added it up yet, but we think we have raised over £100.

"The children had a lovely time. It is always fun when you are wearing your pyjamas.

Staff at South Petherton also dressed up, with kitchen staff sporting Pudsey onesies.

At Holyrood Academy, the Sixth Form football team beat a Staff XI 5-2 in a charity game.

A large crowd of students and staff gathered for the match and the Sixth Form’s younger years and better fitness shone through.

Brad Minchinton gave the Sixth Form an early lead, but the staff equalised through Richard Barker.

Minchinton then put the Sixth Form back in front and then Louis Major netted to make it 3-1.

The staff hit back in the second-half and reduced the deficit when skipper James Gilbert converted a corner.

But the Sixth Form regained their two-goal advantage when Emil Szydetko scored a 25-yard cracker and Joe Hinmers made it 5-2 in the closing stages.

Sixth Form skipper Willis Lawrence said: "I would like to thank the staff for agreeing to play and helping us raise funds for Children in Need."

Staff captain James Gilbert added: "We congratulate the students on their win – it was thoroughly deserved.

"We will learn the lessons and come back stronger next year."

Pupils at Avishayes, Manor Court and Swanmead schools all took part in the fundraising effort as well.
