HOLYROOD Academy’s Connor Payne in Year 10 has won a local artwork competition with his eye-catching painting of two Lancaster Bombers flying over the coast of Normandy.

Connor, who is also known as Cadet Payne, of 2381 Ilminster Squadron, took part in the Devon & Somerset Wing Activities Weekend competition via his Air Cadets group and was thrilled to come first in the category for ‘An aircraft painted in any period of time’.

Holyrood art teacher Ellie Edgecombe, who was delighted at the quality of his work, said: “Local competitions like these provide such a brilliant opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge.

"Connor’s painting is stunning and I am extremely proud of him.”

Connor said: “I am very proud to be part of such a worthwhile organisation and I really enjoyed using my aircraft recognition skills as inspiration for my painting.

"I will definitely be re-entering next year."
