MIDWIFE Becky Scott will be meeting with MP Marcus Fysh to explain to him the importance of setting up a new health centre in Chard.

Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh, whose constituency includes Chard and Ilminster, is keen to hear more about the project which will hopefully see the centre come to life within the grounds of St Mary’s Church in the heart of the town.

The project is the brainchild of well-known Chard-based midwife Becky Scott and is gaining widespread support from people within the medical profession locally and her NHS employers at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

She will be meeting with Mr Fysh on Friday, October 2, along with her co-supporters Rev Sue Tucker, of St Mary’s Church, and Dave Walsham.

“We’re looking forward to meeting with the MP and talking to him about the planned health centre,” she said.

The centre will be based in the building popularly known as St Mary’s Churchrooms although it it is actually officially called Southend School, which closed as a school in the 1950s.

It is currently used by church groups and other organisations in the community, but its origins will come to the fore when it becomes known as the Southend Centre when it opens as the new health centre.

The centre will be used by Becky and others to help with expectant mums and parents with young children to help promote healthy families.

Mr Fysh has told the News that he is looking forward to learning about what the health centre plans and the need for such a facility in the town.

“I’m very keen to meet Becky to discuss the plans and to see what I can do to help,” he said.
