PEOPLE were able to get fantastic bird’s-eye views over Chard on Saturday evening – thanks to a one-night only Ferris Wheel.
Hundreds of people climbed aboard the wheel – nicknamed the Chard Eye – for the chance to see the town from above.
The event was part of the weekend’s Summer Festival celebrations organised by Chard Town Team.
Crowds flocked to have a go on the wheel and enjoy the entertainment, the live music from Goodnight Lois and the lighting of the beacon.
Chard town crier Stuart Cumming seized the opportunity to give out his special booming “Chard Cry” from the top of the wheel and to ring his bell.
The weekend of celebrations also coincided with the 45th anniversary of Chard Museum in the High Street, where people were able to find out about the town’s history.
More than 300 people visited Chard’s old historic courtroom in Fore Street, which was opened up to the public for a rare glimpse of the past. Local MP Marcus Fysh and Mayor Cllr Dave Bulmer were visitors.

Sunday saw a small procession through the town, followed by a Party in the Park at Jocelyn Park which attracted large numbers of people.
The weekend was a big success for the Chard Town Team and followed on from last year’s urban water slide.
