THREE men have been arrested in Chard following a suspected serious assault in the town.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident which allegedly happened on Saturday, June 27, at about 11pm, when a 24-year-old man was said to have been followed by three white men in their early 20s down an alleyway off Fore Street, to the side of Lloyds Bank, where he said he was then repeatedly punched and kicked.

A police spokesman said: “The victim managed to escape but reported that he was again assaulted in the car park at the rear of the Co-Op store.

“The 24-year-old suffered a broken eye socket and severe multiple bruising to his face and eyes - the seriousness of the injuries only coming to light after a later medical check.”

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and are currently on police bail.
