YEAR 10 students from Holyrood Academy in Chard went out into the big wide world to sample a variety of career paths.

More than 200 young people attended work experience placements – locally and further afield in places such as Norwich and London.

One resourceful student even used the opportunity to experience work as a volunteer in a school in Kenya.

Coupled with finding about the actual industries they were trying out, students on work experience were encouraged to learn key life skills such as working with people of varying age ranges and independently travelling to work using public transport.

As a result of the opportunities given by employers, they returned to school with a better idea of what the future holds.

Local businesses have been hugely supportive of the students wanting to try their hand at a range of experiences and Chris Slinger, head of year ten at Holyrood, would like to express his thanks to all involved.
