THREE men have been released on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in a suspected serious assault in Chard.

A 24-year-old man was allegedly followed by three white men in their early 20s down an alleyway off fore Street to the side of Lloyds Bank.

The man said he was repeatedly punched and kicked.

The victim managed to escape but reported that he was again assaulted in the car park at the rear of the Co-Op store.

The 24-year-old suffered a broken eye socket and severe multiple bruising to his face and eyes - the seriousness of the injuries only coming to light after a later medical check.

The alleged incident took place at around 11pm on Saturday June 27.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and are currently on police bail.
