MEMBERS of the Chard Town Team are busy preparing for this year’s summer festival – but they need you to help make it a real success.

Chard has held a summer festival which has included shows, exhibitions, a fun day and also the lighting of the Beacon for a few years, thanks to the hard work of the Chard Town Team and all of the volunteers that help.

But Jason Baker, of the Chard Town Team, said that this year they are trying something a “little different” for the festival which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 18-19.

“We will start our weekend of events with a street market and craft fair in Holyrood Street during the Saturday morning along with street entertainers and buskers to help bring the area alive,” said Mr Baker.

“From 6pm there will be a parade making its way up through the town with groups and individuals dressed in various costumes from history including some Horrible Histories.

“The parade up through town will finish at the Beacon where there will be various entertainment and live music.

“Once dark, people will be entertained by fire breathers and, of course, the evening will end with the lighting of the beacon!”

The following day will see the parade head down through the town from midday and heading to Jocelyn for a Party in the Park where there will be lots of community stalls and local groups along with a packed afternoon of fun games and entertainment.

Mr Baker said: “People are invited to bring their picnic blankets and join us for a great day out – there will be something for everyone.”
