CHARD'S community cooking group Bubble and Speak is celebrating its second birthday with a free festival of food at the Guildhall this Bank Holiday Monday.

The CHAR-Delicious Food Festival gives people the chance to try out making pizzas, salads, smoothies and dips. Bring along your favourite recipes and meet members of the weekly group who will be demonstrating some of the delicious dishes they prepare each Wednesday at the Guildhall.

There will be a 'store cupboard challenge', where a prize will be awarded for the most inventive recipe ideas based on ingredients found in a typical kitchen.

The event, which takes place between 11am-3pm, is free but donations are welcome and will be given to the Chard WATCH project which supports people with mental health issues.

CHAR-Delicious is a chance for everyone to discover fun ways to prepare tasty, cheap and healthy meals and snacks.

The team from Eleos café in Chard will be helping people make pizzas.

Kate Rew, who runs Bubble & Speak, said: "I'm trying to help people feel more confident about being in the kitchen, and in particular cooking healthy meals from scratch.

"It's all about helping people realise they can make a big difference to their health by cooking nutritious meals that are really good value for money and simple to prepare."

Kate set up Bubble & Speak two years ago as a result of her work in the town as an NHS Fresh Steps health trainer.

She added: "So many of the people I was working with wanted to learn about cooking healthier food. There's now a group of people who come along every week enjoy learning new recipes and sharing their ideas."
