HOLYROOD Academy’ s principal has welcomed an extra injection of cash from the Government to improve the school’ s buildings .

The Zembard Lane school is among 170 acadamies and sixthform colleges across the SouthWest which will receive a share of £46million in 2015-16 for improve - ments and expansion projects .

Holyrood will receive more than £640,000 for a ‘flat roof replacement’ and ‘fire safety matters’.

Principal Martin Brook said: “The academy is very pleased to have receive d £644,000 in the recent rounds of Academy Capital Investment Funding from the Department for Education. At a time when funding within education is getting tighter than ever, this money will enable us to carry out essential roof replacement and fire safety works, and enable us to continue to move the academy forward.”

The funding announcement was made last week by Education Secretary Nicky Morgan and Schools Minister David Laws , MP for the Yeovil Constituency.

Mr Laws said: “T o create a stronger economy and a fairer society, it is crucial that we invest in education so that every child has a fair star t in life .

“Since 2010, the Government has invested more than £18bn in school buildings and we recently announced a further £6bn to help drive up school building standards across the country in the coming years.

“Thanks to the Condition Improvement Fund, thousands more pupils and their teachers across England will benefit from safe , high-quality classrooms.”
