8:19am Wednesday 14th February 2007 in Chard By Alex Cameron
SICK thieves stole two pet rabbits from a garden in Chard before returning to the scene to dump the guts of the slaughtered animals.
The Nunn family of Bubwith Road are devastated by the incident, and are warning fellow pet owners to be on their guard.
Lionhead rabbit Spook went missing on the night of Friday, February 2, while dwarf lop Snowy disappeared the following night.
When the family went to feed Snowy on Sunday morning, they instead found the innards of their pets, neatly deposited on top of the hutch.
"Snowy was missing and we were looking for holes in the run when I said 'What the hell is that?' and on top of the run were rabbits' intestines and guts.
"There was no blood and it hadn't been done there and then - they had brought it back again.
"We've no idea who did it - it's a sicko," said Lorraine Nunn.
The rabbits had been family pets for five years and belonged to Mrs Nunn's daughters Gabriella, aged 16, and Alexandria, 20.
Mrs Nunn added: "They were used to being held - they were such harmless little animals and would probably have come running up to whoever took them.
"It was definitely humans and not another animal - there was no fur or blood and no sign of any sort of struggle.
"Gaby and Alexandria were very upset and distressed by it, especially the way it was done.
"We won't be getting any more rabbits when there's someone like that about.
"Last year we had a fox attack and the mum and brother of Snowy were killed but Snowy survived by hiding in a tube - only to be killed by a human.
"We're bringing it to people's attention - there is someone about again."
o IN August 2005, the News reported how rabbits and other pets belonging to Heather Lee, of Bubwith Close, had been slaughtered.
Mrs Nunn said those rabbits were brothers and sisters of Spook and Snowy.
Police are appealing for witnesses and in-formation to the incident. You can call the Crimestoppers line on 0800-555111 or Chard Police Station on 0845-4567000.
