MANOR Court Primary School in Chard has taken delivery of a batch of young trees from a Somerset garden centre.

Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre hosted a sapling giveaway for worthy causes on a first come first served basis and has given the trees to the school for its Forest Schools project.

Head teacher Adrian Mitchell said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the donation of saplings from the garden centre and would like to say a huge thank you to the staff for choosing us.

“The young trees will be incredibly useful in our new Forest Schools project.

“Because we place high value on the opportunities that Forest School would offer our children for team building, environmental awareness and the opportunity to engage in their learning in a different setting, we are currently redeveloping two areas of our site.

“One is an area of the school field, the other is our foundation area.

“Both areas are currently tree free and we feel that planting the saplings kindly donated by Monkton Elm means both areas will begin to benefit from and develop into lively, stimulating and educational Forest School areas capable of engaging our children further and offering new avenues for learning.”
