CONCERNS over the safety of children at Manor Court Primary School have been addressed with a special assembly on the importance of road safety.

Police Community Support Officer Lisa Davies visited their assembly to talk about the importance of being seen.

PCSO Davies was joined by Yarlington Housing Group’s community co-ordinator Tracey Baker, who initiated the visit after speaking with local residents in the area who had raised concerns about children’s safety and lack of awareness they seemed to have when it came to the road, cars and playing.

Tracey said: “We felt it was crucial to reinforce the importance of road safety to the children.

“Each and every child is so precious and it is imperative, as adults, to help them understand and protect the one thing they can’t borrow, can’t buy and can’t get back once lost.”

In the interactive assembly PCSO Davies spoke with the children about the Highway Code, Green Cross Code and zebra crossings, stressing the importance of staying safe and always using bikes, scooters or rollerblades on the pavement.

She ended the assembly by telling the children, ranging in age from four to 11, to “Be safe, be seen, be careful and keep your ears and eyes open.”

Following the assembly Lisa and Tracey visited classrooms to hand out reflective dinosaurs and bears to the children to tie to their bags and coats.
