SOUTH Somerset District Council is inviting housing associations and other registered housing associations to apply to be part of the council's preferred affordable housing development partnership.

The authority is reviewing its respective partnership for 2015 and is keen to hear from suitable organisations that are already operating in the vicinity and are committed to delivering affordable housing in the district.

They are working with Mendip District Council who is also reviewing its partnership but each council will reach their own conclusion.

Cllr Ric Pallister, portfolio holder for housing at South Somerset District Council said: “Strong partnerships are an essential ingredient to success in the housing world and none-more so than with our Housing Associations when it comes to Affordable Housing.

“This is a battle of supply versus demand and as a country we appear to be losing both the battle and the war.

“Whilst we cannot influence the overall UK picture, by working collaboratively in close Partnerships we can at least contain the situation locally and I am delighted that yet again Mendip and ourselves will be tackling the east of the County together.

“Getting the right partners on board who will push the development boundaries and actively seek opportunities to create more affordable homes is key to maintaining our lead position for affordable housing delivery in the South West”.

Applications must be received by 12pm on January 30.

Applicants passing the first stage and wishing to become a main partner will then be shortlisted for the second stage assessment.

To request an initial application pack, contact Louise Field on 01935-462064 or email louise.field@southsomerset.gov.uk Packs will be made available from January 6.
