A CHARD mother says she is fed up with putting herself and her children in danger because of dog mess on the pavement.

Bonnie Evans, from Chard, said children and parents are forced to use the road leading to Manor Court Primary School because so much dog mess is on the pavement.

She fears it will not be long until an accident happens and said dog mess was found every week.

The mum-of-three added: “There is a huge problem with dog mess along the path leading to the school and the Early Years Centre every week.

“There is so much mess it’s disgusting. “Children, and especially parents with pushchairs, have to walk on the Summerfields Road to avoid walking in it because there is no path on the other side.”

Bonnie said she had complained to South Somerset District Council which said it could do nothing unless the person leaving the mess was caught and fined.

The council also told her a notice was in place telling dog owners to pick up their pet’s mess.

Bonnie added: “It’s disgusting, I have two dogs myself and I always pick their mess up.

“I would never dream of leaving it, especially outside a primary school.

“I have been tempted to see if I can catch the person but I think at the very least a bin for dog mess should be put up there.”

A spokesperson for the council said: “We received two requests for clearing dog fouling in the same area from the complainant on Monday, November 24.

“Calls of this nature are recorded on our customer services system and the report is directed to our Streetscene Services department.

“Resident details such as name and address are recorded, along with the details of the incident they are reporting.

“In this instance, an enforcement officer has been to the area and put up new no fouling signs and the report has also been sent to Chard Town Council this week who are responsible for the street cleaning in Chard and would therefore remove the faeces from outside the school and the surrounding areas.”
