A TEAM of youngsters from Holyrood Academy in Chard are set for a challenging six months after committing to work with Date Palm Developments.

The company, based in Glastonbury, are taking part in the Engineering Education Scheme.

The Holyrood team comprises of five students all in their first year of sixth form.

Associate engineer Peter Duncan from Date Palm Development who will be helping to mentor the students, said: “Once again we are looking forward to working with a team of young students on a “real” engineering issue as part of the EES.

“Each year it is a privilege to meet a new group of keen and enthusiastic students eager to meet the challenge of the project we have chosen.”

Teacher Mark Easterling from Holyrood Academy added: ‘Having supported students working with a range of specialist companies over the last few years, I can honestly say the scheme allows students to gain hands on approach to engineering.

“I have seen several students from Holyrood begin their journey in engineering from being part of this scheme.”
