CHARD Rugby Club’s under-14s manager is looking for more youngsters to join in.

Craig Hiscock said plenty of talent seems to be around but boys do not seem to want to play rugby outside of school.

He added: “At the moment I have a small but strong team – unfortunately there are only 18 signed up, which is frustrating because when injury or sickness strikes, I have no back up.

“There is so much talent within Chard and I don’t understand why more boys don’t want to play outside of school.

“I think they could benefit so much by representing their town and community.

“I have a great team of coaches and with just a couple of new players, we could become one of the strongest teams in the county.

“With Holyrood School and Chard RFC in the process of forming a rugby academy, it’s a perfect time for them to start playing outside of school.

“I’m asking all parents in Chard, Ilminster or Crewkerne who have a son in year 9 or even year 8 and who enjoys rugby, to encourage them.”

The under-14s train on a Wednesday night at Crewkerne Road playing fields at 6.30pm.

They also train or have a match at Chard Rugby Club on Sundays at 10am.
