A GROUP of mums in Chard have joined forces to run a play scheme preventing antisocial behaviour on their estate.

Play Rangers was set up in October on Brunel Court after Raglan Housing Association received complaints regarding antisocial behaviour.

To prevent further nuisances, the group set up the play scheme which monitors children on the estate for 90-minute sessions, once a week.

Laura Zbagan, one of the founding members of Play Rangers, feels the group has made a difference to children's playtime habits on the estate.

She said: “The group was set up because we'd heard from Raglan that people had made complaints about antisocial behaviour on Brunel Court.

“I think this scheme has been very beneficial for the area; we've had lots of parents and children get involved. It's brought the community spirit out and people are getting to know their neighbours too.

“I feel children have a lot more respect for their neighbours when they're outside meeting them and getting to know them.

“There will be another session in December with our Christmas Crafts and a session in February before the spring season starts; with the plan to start weekly sessions in March.

“We received initial funding from Raglan to train with Barnardo's prior to running the group and currently have £100 in a pot to buy materials.

“We'll be looking to hold coffee morning and other fundraisers to fund the group.

“The sessions, held on Wednesdays, were very successful but we will wait for feedback from the estate to see whether this will be our regular day.”

Play Rangers is looking for more materials and funding to keep sessions going. If you would like to donate materials or money to the group, contact Laura on 01460-394852.
