DAIRY Crest has announced a further cut in milk prices paid to farmers.

The firm, which last week announced the loss of 60 jobs at its creamery at Chard Junction, will cut 1.3 pence per litre from farmers with Davidstow and standard liquid contracts from November 1.

The reduction, announced the day before a previously announced cut of 1.75ppl comes into force, is blamed on global commodity prices.

Davidstow contracts will now pay 29.04 ppl for a standard litre and farmers with with all or a proportion of their milk price on the standard liquid contract will get 27.04 ppl.

The latest cut brings the total reduction by Dairy Crest since September to 4.15 ppl.
