A FUNDRAISER from Chard is going to sit in a bath of ‘yuck’ for eight hours to raise money for charity today (September 26).

Sarah Haskins, who runs the Sue Ryder Care charity shop in Holyrood Street, is hoping to complete her challenge outside the Morrisons supermarket in Fore Street this Friday, but if she cannot get permission from Somerset County Council to carry out the challenge on the pavement she will complete it in the charity shop window.

She said: “We have to raise money each year for our summer fundraising, which goes towards the charity. We support people with cancer, multiple sclerosis and brain injuries, and day care centres for people with lifechanging illnesses, so that affects a lot of people.”

Last year, Sarah cut the playing fields at Chard Rugby Club with a hand mower – it took a gruelling six hours, but it raised a whopping £1,400.

She hopes to raise £1,600 from this year’s challenge and said: “I’ll be sitting in a bath of gunk, including gravy, mushed vegetables and yuck.

“People can donate money and then throw a bucket of yuck over my head, or add things to the bath if they like.”

The team at the charity shop have held a pound sale and a jumble sale, and sold cakes to raise money already, but they hope Sarah’s challenge will help them reach their target.

If you would like to donate, visit the shop and fill in the sponsorship form on the front desk, or volunteers will have collecting buckets at the challenge, which runs from 9am to 5pm.
