A GIANT water slide WILL be making its way to Chard High Street next month following a successful appeal for straw and hay bales.

Last week, The News reported how hopes for a 300-foot water slide were slipping away after organisers struggled to find the vital hay bales needed for support.

But a farmer has come forward and saved the day.

The one-off event has been organised by Chard Mayor, Cllr Jenny Kenton, to raise money for her charities.

The exciting event will take place on September 7 and between 300 and 400 people will be able to give it a go.

The event would replicate an event which took place in Bristol earlier this year, which saw people travelling from all over the country to take part.

The slide will be open for everyone over the age of six, those under 1.20 metres will be able to slide later in the afternoon when the slide is shortened to allow younger children to take part.

Mayor Jenny said: “We have all the ingredients for a slide, hill, water and people with a sense of fun.

“It’s so exciting I really can’t wait.”

It is essential to pre-book as participants will not be able to turn up and slide on the day.

Registration forms are available from the Guildhall and payment must be made in advance.

There will be a choice of times available but book early to avoid disappointment.

A wristband system will be in operation, which will be issued when you have completed the booking and paid.
