PEOPLE in Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne are being urged to go greener and start composting at home for the New Year.
Somerset County Council has joined up with Recycle Now and WRAP, the Waste & Resources Action Programme, to get more people recycling their kitchen, household and garden waste.
Instead of having organic waste top up the already bulging landfill sites, we can recycle our leftovers and make a useful product for our gardens.
By starting to add to your home compost now, you could have a home made supply of nutrients for your summer flowers.
Many regular household contents can be used in the compost including fruit and vegetable peelings, dead flowers, grass cuttings, egg shells, pet hair, coffee granules, toilet roll innards, teabags, the contents of your vacuum cleaner and even old shredded bank statements and bills.
Home composting is something the whole family can get involved in and can help the environment at the same time.
To help you get started, the new WRAP scheme offers Somerset residents cut-price compost bins from as little as £10.
