A MAN from Chard has visited St James' Palace in London to receive a special achievement award for serving the community.
Matthew Grimstead, aged 20, was among 35 young people from throughout Somerset who received the Duke of Edinburgh's gold award presented by the Duke himself.
Matthew's achievements included coaching Avishayes Combe Under-14 youth football team and acting as assistant manager.
He also spent time as an adult helper at Tatworth Primary School.
Robert Sampson, award officer for Somerset County Council, said: "It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to get this far, not only from the young people themselves but also the volunteers who help them achieve it."
Mr Sampson said more local volunteers were urgently needed for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
Anybody who is interested in participating in the scheme or who is considering volunteering is advised to contact Helen Watkins on 01823-447120 or to e-mail hwatkins@somerset.gov.uk
