FORMER Chard evacuee Michael Aspel was the guest speaker at Chard Rotary Club President's Ladies Night.
The broadcaster and club president Dick Arnold were boyhood friends, and Mr Aspel regaled guests with stories of his 4 years in Chard as an evacuee in the Second World War and his TV career.
Other guests included the Rotary District 1,200 Governor Peter Hardwill, and the club presidents of Taunton, Ilminster, Axminster and Crewkerne.
Nearly 100 members and guests sat down to an excellent meal and the evening finished with dancing to Jazz Accord.
