A NEWS campaign to bring CCTV to Chard is set to receive a huge funding boost soon, according to organisers.
Chard Deputy Mayor Martin Wale says the Market Towns Initiative finance group is meeting in the near future and he is hopeful members will approve £40,000 in funding for the project.
That will mean extra cameras covering key town centre locations can be hooked up to the current monitoring equipment.
"It will hopefully provide a fairly comprehensive system for the town," said Cllr Wale.
"I'm pleased because it's something positive.
"It's a community campaign headed by the Chard & Illy and local business which has kickstarted the district council."
The News started the Keeping an Eye on Chard campaign in September, 2004.
Earlier this year the campaign notched up its first success as the town's first camera was installed on the corner of Holyrood Street.
Footage from the camera has since been reviewed in connection with a number of town centre incidents.
