SHOPPERS in Chard have been thanked for their patience as the town's Tesco store suffers ongoing problems with its till system.
The issue first arose when the shop was forced to close for the morning on Friday, November 24, and there have been sporadic problems ever since.
Readers of the News have complained about the long queues and problems at checkouts.
Jacob van Schalkwyk, who lives near Ilminster, contacted the News to say he had been shopping at other supermarkets in Chard as well as the Tesco store in Taunton.
He said: "It's ridiculous - they've had weeks to sort out their problems.
"Customers are coming in and they can't get them through the tills. People are ditching the trolleys."
The supermarket giant is investigating the problem and has put temporary measures in place to ensure that no further disruption occurs.
It is hoped that problems have been solved for the busy Christmas period.
A Tesco spokesman said: "We're very sorry for the disruption and are determined to put this problem right.
"A generator is now in use and should ensure smooth operations over the Christmas period.
"We'd like to thank customers for their patience."
