Snow on January 23, 2013: Go steady on the roads

MOTORISTS are being warned to take extra caution this morning while out driving following the heavy snowfall.

There were huge problems with last night's rush-hour traffic after the snow started to fall again mid-afternoon.

Further snowfall overnight has added to the problems, but the main roads are relatively good - although extra care is needed.

News chief reporter Steve Sowden travelled over from his home in Yeovil to Chard earlier this morning. "The main A303 and Ilminster by-pass were fine, as long as you drove sensibly.

"Conditions got worse once I went onto the A358 at Donyatt and there appeared to be problems with the traffic lights at the roadworks on the entrance to the village."

Latest traffic reports suggest that the A358 at Ashill is particularly bad - so motorists should take caution.

A number of snow ploughs have been seen going up through Chard town centre this morning.
