Care staff in line for award
10:00am Thursday 8th November 2012 in Chard
A COOK at a Chard care home who goes the extra mile to cater for birthdays and diets is up for an award.
Jackie Judd, nominated in the nutrition and hydration category, is one of three Majesticare staff from Oak Lodge to become a finalist in the Great British Care Awards for the South West.
Fellow colleagues and finalists are Sylvia Conichie (dementia award) and Sarah Barratt (dignity in care).
Long-standing staff member Sylvia, who has worked for several years in the dementia field, said: “I find it rewarding and I'm honoured to be recognised.”
Sarah, who has also worked in the care sector many years, said she enjoys the challenges of her role.
Kitchen manager and cook Jackie has been in catering 36 years and her nomination says she goes the extra mile for residents' special diets, birthdays and events.
The trio will attend a gala dinner in Bristol this month to find out the winners.
Oak Lodge manager Amanda Kelly said: “I'm so proud of my staff and that they've been recognised for all their hard work.”
Erica Hart, Majesticare managing director, said: “It's great the investment and time we give employees is being acknowledged.”
Oak Lodge has recently been refurbished.
