VOLUNTEERS from across Somerset are needed to help out at Taunton Police Station.
People who come forward will be asked to check on the welfare of detainees being held in police custody during unannounced visits.
Custody development officer Lorna Muffett said: “Custody visiting provides impartial feedback on the way in which people in custody are treated.
“Entering custody facilities for the first time can be a very daunting experience for anyone.
“Our job is to ensure those in custody are being treated fairly and are in suitable accommodation. We want a wide range of applicants from all corners of the community.”
Applicants must be aged at least 18 and live or work in the Avon and Somerset police force area.
Volunteers will receive expenses and training is provided.

so let me guess the volunteers are not needed and not used when there are not visits. if the detainees are suppose to be monitored maybe its best the employee some people to watch them 24/7 instead of just 2 hours a month when a visit happens
