THE region is again bracing itself for snow with the cold snap that has blighted most of the UK set to continue.

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert of snow for Somerset on Saturday (February 4).

Temperatures are forecast to drop overnight to around -3 degsC.

The snow, which is expected to be country-wide, will move eastwards across England on the first half of Sunday.

The Met Office said: "Accumulations of snow of around 5cm are likely in places; this includes low lying areas.

"The public are advised that some travel disruption may result.

"Snow is like to turn to sleet then rain in Wales and more western parts of England later on Saturday."

A knife-edge situation as they say, snow amounts will depend on positioning of front on the day - if it stalls above the cold air then lots and lots but this looks like it'll happen further east into Wilts, Berkshire and so on.

My view for Somerset? Snow to start with at low levels, turning to heavy rain as Sat evening progresses - Exmoor, Quantocks and Mendips will have more snow due to altitude so thawing less pronounced as the front passes.

Take care if you're heading to the hills tomorrow!

We'll see. Despite umteen satalites and £millions of computers 9 times out of 10 the Met Office tend to be about as accurate as a piece of seaweed......

Well, it a white out up here. Cant even see the edge of the garden, let alone the fields. Think its going to add to the 4 inches we had lying around. how much is anybodys guess! Anyone thinking of heading for the hills, dont bother, or if you do, stick to the main roads, as some have come unstuck on the ice before the fresh fall!

we just need an inch. enough to make everything white and pretty but not enough to cause road issues. hopefully the gritter lorries have salt this year, unlike last year's mess

the little amount we get combined with the ice, that is inconvenient. Scotland seem to manage with 5 feet of snow, they carry on, airports in Moscow carry on in -30 temps, we get a few flakes, and the airports and roads come to a halt, we get snotty letters from school about our children not going in when the school is open. let kids be kids and build snowmen and igloos.
