PUPILS at St Mary’s Primary School in Thorncombe are setting sail for some seafaring fun thanks to a new Viking ship outdoor play area.

The 35-foot long structure includes decks, a seating area and shields, which will be decorated by the children.

It forms part of an ongoing landscape concept plan to enhance the school grounds, which has been funded through efforts by the PFA, teachers and parents.

The project so far has included a fruit and vegetable garden, cob pizza oven, musical zone and eye-catching totem pole.

The next phase will focus on the front area of the school, with plans to construct a path and edible hedge already underway.
