TREKKING Machu Picchu sounds like quite a walk for dogs, but veterinary nurse Tace Daniels is determined to complete the four-day hike for a canine charity.
Tace, who works for a vet in Collumpton, Devon, heard about the challenge through a friend and former colleague who encouraged her to trek the ancient Incan site to raise money for Dogs for the Disabled.
Although she hasn’t tackled anything like this before, Tace has been training on the hills of Dartmoor following an introductory weekend in Yorkshire in May with the 45 other trekkers taking part in September.
To help raise sponsorship money for the trek, Tace and her friend Kerry Hatcher are putting on a charity fun day at Combe St Nicholas football ground on Sunday, August 23.
The charity fun day will feature live music from bands including No Closure, a barbecue with local meats, bouncy castle, car boot sale, ‘It’s a Knockout’ themed activities as well as raffles, lucky dip, teas and coffees and many more fete entertainments.
The fund day starts at 1pm, entry is free and the car boot sale costs £5 per car, for more information contact Tace on 01884-34484 or 07854-015585.
Dogs for the Disabled is a charity that trains dogs to carry out a range of tasks to assist disabled children and adults and achieve greater independence.
