THE rail line between Crewkerne and Exeter will be closed until Sunday while engineering works are carried out.

South Western Railway said no services will operate between Crewkerne and Exeter until September 23 to allow Network Rail to carry out works to reduce the impact of flooding on rail services in the future.

Replacement bus services will be running between the two stations during this period.

Services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids will terminate and re-start at Crewkerne.

A spokesman for South Western Railway, said: "There is no car parking available at Crewkerne station until September 24 due to space being required for rail replacement buses.

"Customers intending to park at the station for rail services are strongly advised to use Yeovil Junction station car park instead.

"Please do not try and park on local roads around Crewkerne station.

"This is so that we can use the space for rail replacement buses.

"If you're planning to use the station for rail services we strongly advise you to use Yeovil Junction station car park instead.

"Please do not try to park on local roads around Crewkerne station."

South Western Railway said there will also be some changes to train services between September 24 and November 10 as part of the same works.

"For most stations between Salisbury and Exeter this will mean some minor re-timings of trains.

"There will however be fewer station stops than normal at both Feniton and Templecombe – this is because the limited speed of trains in the Axminster area affects the timings of services at the passing locations on single track sections of the route.

"There are further engineering works that will affect services on September 30, October 7 and October 21."
