A SOMERSET film written by a Crewkerne author and shot in the South west has enjoyed a successful Yeovil premiere.

There was a strong turn out to view Winter Ridge, written by Ross Owen Williams, for its first showing at Westlands.

The premiere was attended by Mr Williams, as well as Winter Ridge director Dom Lenoir and lead actor Matt Hookings, both of whom also acted as producers on the film.

Also present were executive producer Mike Harris, Winter Ridge actress Lesley Ann Webb, producer of Journey’s End Guy de Beaujeu, and Game of Thrones actor Tony Crocker.

A Yeovil film director and film fan Ray Tostevin also hosted a post-film question and answer session with Williams, Lenoir and Hookings.

David Recardo, the mayor of Yeovil, said: “The subject was interesting, and the film was full of drama and suspense.

“I also enjoyed being able to see parts of the south west that I knew well on the big screen.

“It is great to be able to celebrate local talent with the community and Yeovil is very proud of Ross and the entire Winter Ridge team.

“We’ll be looking forward to their next projects with great interest.”

Among the starring roles in Winter Ridge are Hannah Waddingham, who is best known for her role as ‘shame’ sister Septa Unella in Game of Thrones.

Alongside her is Alan Ford, who plays ‘Brick Top’ in Snatch and also stars in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

The premiere was also Mr Williams first chance to see the final finished film.

He said: “I’m thoroughly impressed with how Dom, Matt and the whole team have brought the story to life on the screen.

“The whole evening was fantastic, unquestionably one of the best nights I’ve ever had, and the support from the local community was so greatly appreciated.”

Winter Ridge continues its cinema release across the south and south west, with other venues including Okehampton, Exeter, and Newton Abbot.
